According to a research published in the journal Public Library of Science (PLoS) Medicine it was revealed that diet risk in fruits and vegetables may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The outcome of the research was achieved from the researchers studied the diets and genetic pattern of nearly 30,000 people. Researchers were interested in people who had a genetic variation named 9p21. As this genetic variant has association with an increase in CVD risk.
People with the variant of 9p21 who were on a diet high in fruit and vegetables, especially raw vegetables had reduced risk of CVD when they were compared to their counterparts who took low amounts of fruit and vegetables.
It is a fact that a family history of CVD puts a person having an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. In this case genetics and lifestyle play a vital role as families share the common genes and lot of their health habits is also akin.
