A new University of Wisconsin study has revealed that older women can lower their chances of getting cataracts if they start consuming healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals. The role of vitamins and minerals in a human body is to boost the immune system. It not only supports normal growth and development but also helps cells and other organs to do their jobs properly. Like carrots are beneficial for your eyes because they contain a substance called carotenoids which a body converts it into vitamin A, thus helping preventing any eye problem.
Moreover, vitamin K helps blood to clot. This vitamin is found in broccoli, soybeans and green leafy vegetables. For strong bones eat food like yogurt, milk and green leafy vegetables which contain mineral and calcium.
According to the study lead author Julie Mare, her colleagues examined 18, 08 women in the age group 55 years, who were a part of the Women’s health initiative study. The study was by way of completed food frequency questionnaires and age related eye disease questions.
The modus operandi of the study was follow-up of 1992 food guide pyramid, full marks were given to those who consumed recommended amount of fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains. While individuals were given low marks that included fat, sodium and cholesterol related diet. At the end of the study it was found that the women with highest dietary scores had the lower risk of developing cataracts. Thus it is in the fitness of things to include healthy diet.
